The Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief and Development (ACBAR) is an umbrella organization that promotes transparency and accountability as well as facilitating coordination among NGOs working in Afghanistan with the government, civil society, UN and donor agencies.
ACBAR was founded in 1988 and promotes the views of its NGO members through information sharing and advocacy with other NGOs, the UN, donors and the Government of Afghanistan.  ACBAR currently has a membership of 142 national and international NGOs. The governing body of ACBAR is the General Assembly of ACBAR members. This meets twice a year and annually nominates a 16-member steering committee to oversee ACBAR activities.
