German International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives. It provides viable, forward looking solutions for political, economic, ecological and social development in a globalised world.
Working efficiently, effectively and in a spirit of partnership, we support people and societies in developing, transition and industrialized countries in shaping their own futures and improving living conditions. This is what the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is all about. Established on 1 January 2011, it brings together under one roof the long-standing expertise of the Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst (DED) gGmbH (German Development Service), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH (German Technical Cooperation) and Inwent – Capacity Building International, Germany. As a federally owned enterprise, we support the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We are also engaged in international education work around the globe.
The Open Policy Advisory Fund (OPAF) reacts in a rapid and flexible manner on reform gaps identified by Afghan partner institutions. The project is implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The OPAF’s objective is to contribute to improved governance at the central level, by strengthening the Afghan administrative capacities in designing and implementing structural reforms in the field of governance. The project provides advisory services and trainings requested by Afghan government institutions. The Afghan government’s reform priorities as presented in the London conference 2014 constitute the programmatic framework for the Open Policy Advisory Fund (OPAF).
